Headlines June 19:
-Premier Heather Stefanson, along with senior RCMP and Shared Health officials, are to hold a news conference today (June 19) about last week’s bus crash near Carberry. It’ll be held at RCMP ‘D’ Divison headquarters in Winnipeg at noon.
-Dauphin residents await answers on who died in fatal bus crash. ‘People are trying to just figure out how they’re supposed to feel right now’: resident. Dauphin city council expected to discuss whether a public memorial will be held. Dauphin Mayor David Bosiak says council has a regular meeting today & include items relating the crash.
-10 still in hospital with 6 in critical condition. 9 receiving care at HSC & 1 in Brandon. Another update will likely come today.
-Community calling for highway improvements after many incidents on that highway over the years. According to the province, there were 29 collisions from 2012 to 2021, including 12 that resulted in injuries; 1 fatality.
-Dauphin’s church community is backing the families & loved ones of the victims. Father Brent Kuzyk led parishioners through Sunday service at St. George’s, where some of the victims once prayed. Shared Health encourages anyone impacted or affected by the crash to contact its support line at 1-888-379-7699.
-Citing challenges in the pork processing industry, pork processing company HyLife is laying off 87 people, the company announced at the start of June, 29 of those will be eliminated from the company’s pork processing plant, HyLife Foods, in Neepawa.
-WHL announced Friday the Wpg Ice are moving to Wenatchee, Washington. The team is coming off a successful season, reaching the WHL’s championship series against Seattle.
