-Substance use, mental health linked to city’s 4 homicides: Brandon police. A sharp uptick for Brandon, as there were 3 homicides in 2019, none in 20 or 21 and 1 in 2022.
-Finally a break; Bank of Canada holds its key interest rate steady amid mounting evidence the economy is slowing, but isn’t declaring victory yet.
-Sunrise Credit Union signs a naming rights partnership with the new arena in Minnedosa, naming it Sunrise Credit Union Centre.
-Brandon is facing a $1.5M budget shortfall it’s not sure it can make up by the end of the fiscal year, according to a report from the audit and finance committee at Monday’s Council meeting. Departments have been asked to find $500,000 in savings as the shortfall is blamed on extra costs for downtown security, annual library grant & revenue losses from the closure of the Sportsplex and lower supplemental taxes.
-Argos & Blue Bombers can become the first 2 CFL teams to secure post-season berths this week. Toronto hosts Montreal, while Winnipeg needs a home victory over SK.
-The Wpg Jets announced single-game tickets for the 23-24 season go on sale at noon Friday. The Jets host former head coach Paul Maurice & the Stanley Cup runner-up Florida Panthers in the home opener Oct. 14.
-Jess Moskaluke brings her Winter Wonderland Tour to Brandon’s WMCA Dec 4 and the Watson Art Centre Dauphin December 5th.
