Leon’s Headlines Jan 10: An Alberta clipper is expected to bring up to 20CM of snow to SW MB over the next 2 days. Snowfall started last night, will continue Wednesday, and will taper off by Thursday morning. Most communities will see between 10 to 15CM, but some could see more, particularly along the MB escarpment.

-Mountain View School Division – all buses are cancelled due to worsening road conditions. Schools will be open; learning will occur for students who can attend safely & those at home are expected to check in to their classes via their online platform.

-Park West School Division: Buses are cancelled, schools are open.

-Rolling River School Division – due to a snowfall warning, higher winds, and visibility issues, buses are cancelled for today. All schools are open.

-Brandon overnight drop-in centre opens just in time to help people escape the biting cold thanks to $350K in provincial funding; 16 clients use services on the first night of operations Monday. The drop-in will serve as an overflow space for clients of Samaritan House — the city’s only overnight shelter. It can sleep up to 41 people each night; seeing over 10K visits last year.

-Minnedosa RCMP looking for missing man. Adam Oswald was last seen at a residence on Hwy 16 in the municipality Glenella-Lansdowne in November.

ANOTHER OPEN DOOR. This one on purpose! An Air Canada passenger at Toronto Pearson International Airport opened the plane door and jumped onto the tarmac before it even took off for Dubai. The unidentified passenger “boarded the aircraft normally” but then opened a cabin door instead of taking his seat onboard the Boeing 747 Monday night, fell 20 feet to the tarmac, sustained unspecified injuries, and prompting calls to Police and emergency services. The incident delayed takeoff for almost 6 hours!
