Leons Headlines March 15: Strathclair Community School locked down Thursday after RCMP received a report of an armed robbery at a rest stop on Hwy 16 & 10. 4 suspects had stolen a truck at gunpoint; fled the scene. With a Yellowhead RCMP report of 4 suspicious people in Strathclair, police rushed to the scene & took 3 into custody; 4th fleeing on foot.

-New report; MB had highest jump in the cost of one-bedroom rent, now $1400. 2 bedroom up 18% to just over $1700.

-A proposed MB law hopes to prevent spread of computer-altered intimate images. Bill 24: the Intimate Image Protection Amendment Act, would expand the definition of intimate images to include those altered by AI.

-Len Evans Centre at ACC Thursday hosted 320 high school students for the 2^nd annual Trades Summit, a partnership with the Construction Association of Rural MB, helping expose young people to the trades.

First self checkout. Now self security? In an attempt to combat theft at its stores, Loblaw is testing receipt scanners at four of its locations. Customers who go through self-checkout must use the device to scan their receipt’s barcode — confirming that they paid something — which opens a metal gate, letting them leave.

Theft is getting so bad, maybe we should just let them have this stuff. A Toronto police officer suggested that residents leave their car keys by the front door to avoid a home invasion, seemingly to let criminals steal their vehicle if they break in, leave and avoid injuries. The Toronto Police Service issued a statement Wednesday confirming that an officer made the remarks at a recent community meeting.
