Will Cells Work Today?-Eclipse craziness Grips North America

Leons Headlines April 8: A solar eclipse for the first time since 1979 today (if clouds stay away) and Brandon University is offering telescopes and welding glasses for a dollar each to view the partial eclipse 12:45 pm to 3:00 pm. The Brandon School Division says it’ll be keeping students inside during the eclipse.

-Residents can provide feedback to Brandon City Council on this year’s budget at a public hearing tonight. City staff are set to present details for Brandon’s 2024 financial plan starting at 7 p.m. before opening the floor to the public.

-A woman was rushed to hospital Saturday after she fell from the third floor of a burning building in the 300 block of 15th Street. The fire is believed to have started on the third floor of the building, which has been divided into suites.

-Sunday afternoon, emergency crews were called to another fire, this time in the 400 block of 12th street. Neighboring houses were evacuated. No one was injured and the fire does not appear suspicious. The Office of the Fire commissioner is still investigating the cause of the fire.

-West Jet is making an announcement in Winnipeg this morning that will bring increased connectivity to Manitoba. Speculation a new route to be added.

-About a hundred athletes from across Manitoba and Saskatchewan met at Brandon’s Community Sportsplex Saturday to race in the Special Olympics Westman Great Whites swim meet competition over the weekend.
