Leons Headlines April 22: Today is Earth Day, and Saturday volunteers from the Brandon Earth Day Committee set up at the Riverbank Discovery Centre, Stanley Park, Rideau Park & Lions Memorial Park. The group handed out equipment for residents to pick up trash & set up drop-off points electronic waste.
-Brandon has suspended its green cart collection until further notice due to “unforeseen staffing shortages”. Residents are asked not to put green carts out until further notice.
-RCMP say a 27-year-old man has died after being shot by officers who were responding to a weapons complaint Saturday at a residence in Sandy Bay First Nation.
-A 34-year-old man from Brandon is facing a number of charges after police say he attempted to stab an officer Friday evening after a disturbance at a hotel on 18th Street North. Police said the suspect became aggressive and attempted to punch one of the responding officers, before pulling out a knife. A Taser was deployed and police apprehended the suspect.
-3 men arrested by RCMP in RMNP after $12K in electronics were stolen in Dauphin April 17th from a Main street business. Police are searching for a 4th suspect, believed to be travelling back to Ontario in a 2011 black Chevy Equinox with Ontario plate DAVB 271.
-15 teams helped raise $46K in the Cerebral Palsy Stationary Bike Race Saturday in the Keystone Centre’s UCT Pavilion.
