HAPPY HALLOWEEN WEEK. Some SunSeekers asked what they might throw together for a “last minute work costume” and here’s what we came up with:
Here are some easy, last-minute costume ideas using common items you might already have at home:
Tourist: Grab a Hawaiian shirt, sunglasses, a camera, and a map (or travel guidebook). Add a hat and some sandals with socks if you really want to lean into the look!
Couch Potato: Slip on some comfy pajamas or a robe, grab a bag of chips or a remote, and carry around a throw pillow or blanket. Optional: tape some snack wrappers or crumbs on your outfit for extra effect.
Smarty Pants: Tape or pin some paper “A+” grades, math symbols, or random equations to a pair of pants. Add glasses and a book to complete the look.
Error 404 Costume Not Found: Write “Error 404: Costume Not Found” on a white T-shirt with a marker or make a quick DIY sign to hang around your neck.
Biker: Pull out a leather or denim jacket, jeans, and some boots. Add sunglasses and, if possible, a bandana. Bonus if you have some temporary tattoos to stick on!
Mummy: Use toilet paper or white bandages to wrap around parts of your arms, legs, and torso (secure with tape or clips). Leave it slightly loose and a little messy for a “rising from the grave” vibe.
Robber: Pair a black-and-white striped shirt with black pants, a beanie, and a small bag marked with a dollar sign (a pillowcase or drawstring bag works). Add a mask (or draw one on with eyeliner) if you have it!
Party Animal: Wear a party hat, grab a noise maker, and add some animal ears or a mask if you have one. Toss on some fun accessories like a feather boa or glitter if you have it.
Bookworm: Carry a few books, wear glasses, and add some fake worms (or even a paper cutout of a worm) poking out of your pocket or on your shoulder.
Ghost with a Twist: If you have a white sheet, you could go as a classic ghost or cut out eyeholes, and instead of a classic ghost, hold a coffee cup and be a “tired ghost” or wear sunglasses and be a “cool ghost.”
Town Sets Age Limit for Halloween Trick-or-Treaters: Since the 1970s, some counties have considered placing age limits on trick-or-treaters, sparking debate about the appropriate cutoff. Many communities remain divided on enforcing Halloween age restrictions.
