Nice to see Brandon mentioned in Winnipeg News Thursday night: although not for reasons most would find joyous. Cities across the country are being crushed by increasing costs, including Winnipeg. Residents are furious over a near 6% increase in property taxed but are relieved they don’t have an increase as dramatic as the one about to hit the Province’s second largest city.

LA FIRE UPDATE: The January 2025 Los Angeles wildfires have led to the loss of several celebrity homes. Notable individuals affected include:

Billy Crystal: The actor’s family home of 46 years was destroyed.
Paris Hilton: The socialite’s Malibu beach house was reduced to ashes.
Leighton Meester and Adam Brody: The couple’s $7 million mansion was destroyed.
Anna Faris: The actress’s $5 million Los Angeles home was lost to the fires.
Mandy Moore: The singer and actress’s home was among those destroyed.
Cameron Mathison: The “General Hospital” star lost his home and belongings.
John Goodman, Anthony Hopkins, Miles Teller, James Woods, Eugene Levy, Ricki Lake, Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag and Candy Spelling, widow of producer Aaron Spelling lost her Malibu home.


These losses are part of a broader devastation caused by the wildfires, which have destroyed numerous structures and led to widespread evacuations in the Los Angeles area.

Retail struggles continue. On the heels of the announcement regarding Riki’s and Cleo’s closing in Canada, and some Bootlegger stores to follow suit, a merger south of the border with some names you will recognize. JCPenney is merging with SPARC Group, which owns several former bankrupt clothing stores like Forever 21 and Brooks Brothers, to form a new company that will have major influence over America’s malls.

Tik-Tok is done January 19th. No word if Canada will follow, but TikTok plans to shut down in the U.S. on January 19 unless the Supreme Court steps in to delay or block the decision.
