Happy Perogy Day! It’s National Perogy Day, and the big question is: who makes the best and what kinds of things have you had in your perogies?

Sauerkraut perogies are the best.

I’ve tried cottage cheese, Saskatoon, and sauerkraut—fried, baked, deep-fried… all of it 😂 except buckwheat! Wasn’t a fan 🤷🏻‍♀️

Having them cooked in heavy cream and onions is the best. Sauerkraut for the win!

I’ve made them with peach jam—yum! Boiled is the best.

Potato, cheese, and onion! Cottage cheese, sauerkraut, potato and dill, Saskatoon—these are all my family’s favourites, boiled or fried.
My mom made sauerkraut and sardine ones just for my dad at Christmas (not a fan). Dessert ones filled with chocolate are great too!

Cottage cheese with potato perogies, plum perogies, and blueberry perogies—yum! Smothered in oil and lots of onions is the way to go.

My mom used to make peroshki (not sure if I’m spelling it right)—baked perogies served with a dill cream sauce 😊

Blueberry, cranberry, potato and dill, potato and cottage cheese, 3-cheese potato, potato and bacon, sauerkraut with or without bacon, spiced sausage and potato with bacon.
I prefer mine boiled, tossed in butter and onions, served on a buttered dish, and topped with shredded cheese, green onions, and sometimes bacon.

Who makes the best?  CHURCH LADIES of course. Look for the phone number of your nearest Ukrainian Catholic or Ukrainian Orthodox Church and ask if they have a ladies church group. They’ll take care of you!
