BUCKLE UP for HIGH GAS PRICES. Gas has now blown past the $1.90 mark in some places, and suddenly $2 a litre doesn’t sound quite as ridiculous as it did a few months ago. At this rate, filling the tank is starting to feel less like buying gas and more like making a major financial investment!
AIRLINE ROUTE CUTS in the US. Canada started seeing major airline route cuts this spring, and now the U.S. is dealing with its own round of route reductions. Fewer flights means fewer choices for travellers — and potentially a lot more “how the heck am I supposed to get there?” moments.
🤘 MORE AC/DC! AC/DC took over Winnipeg again Sunday night, and fans weren’t about to let the party end when the concert did. The Pyramid Cabaret hosted an AC/DC pop-up pre-party ahead of the band’s final Canadian date — because apparently one night of AC/DC simply isn’t enough!
NO TIME CHANGE — ON HALLOWEEN, and Manitobans continue to be confused! Manitobans are going to have to get used to something very strange this Halloween: the clocks aren’t changing. So for the first time, we get the trick-or-treating, the costumes AND the confusion without gaining or losing an hour of sleep! The time change was SUPPOSED to happen November 1. Other will change and we will not.
SIX MONTHS ago the PST change was announced. It’s been six months since Manitoba’s PST announcement and now comes the interesting question: has anybody actually noticed a difference? Six months is enough time to look beyond the headlines and ask whether the change is actually helping Manitobans’ wallets — or just giving accountants something else to complain about.

A new thriller called American Hostage, filmed right here in Winnipeg, dropped last night — so you might recognize some very familiar Manitoba scenery while people are being chased, threatened and generally having a much worse night than you are. Nothing says “support local film” quite like watching Winnipeg pretend to be somewhere much more dangerous!
RUN TERRY RUN. Another sucessful Terry Fox Run was held across Canada yesterday, and now the Terry Fox story is coming to the big screen with Run Terry Run, opening in theatres Friday, October 9 after its world premiere at TIFF. Terry’s story has been told countless times, but seeing it dramatized for a new generation could bring the incredible scale of what he did into focus all over again.
🍔 TROUBLE FOR WENDY’S. Wendy’s is facing some serious trouble in the U.S., with one franchisee reportedly closing 314 locations — a situation that sounds a lot like what we’ve been seeing with other struggling fast-food chains. When hundreds of restaurants disappear at once, it’s a pretty good reminder that even the biggest names in fast food aren’t immune to changing consumer habits and rising costs. We saw this with Pizza Hut USA then changes in Canada after a sale that followed. Will we see the same this with Wendy?
Lining up at 5 A.M. FOR $6 GROUND BEEF. People were lining up at 5 a.m. for six-dollar ground beef — which tells you two things: people REALLY love a deal, and grocery prices have reached the point where waking up before sunrise for hamburger meat somehow makes sense. And not everyone walked away with some. THis Leduc butcher shop sold 10 000 pounds per hour!
LAST night on 60 minutes. Patrick Clancy give his first interview and says he forgives his ex-wife. Patrick Clancy has publicly spoken about forgiving his ex-wife in an incredibly painful and difficult story that has touched a lot of people. Whatever your reaction to the circumstances, forgiveness in the middle of unimaginable grief is a powerful thing to hear someone talk about.
