Leons Headlines July 17: Smoke from wildfires in Northwestern Ontario has triggered air quality warnings across much of MB, with poor conditions expected to improve in southern regions Friday afternoon while northern areas remain under alert.

-City officials were kept busy Thursday after 27 mm of rain caused localized flooding, prompting crews to pump water from low-lying areas while the Assiniboine continues to recede from Monday’s crest.

-As of 7am Friday, the Assiniboine in Brandon has dropped half a foot since Sunday’s peak as flood-response efforts continue.

-June’s storms and flooding caused a record 30,000-plus insurance claims and $728M in insured damage across Manitoba.

-Brandon has officially bid to host the 2028 Brier, Curling Canada will announce the winning host city this fall.

-Flooding has wiped out nearly two-thirds of campsites at MB campgrounds, with both public & private operators feeling the impact.

-RCMP in Neepawa are asking for the public’s help locating 30-year-old Lester Pruden, wanted in connection with a June assault, and are urging anyone with information to contact police while avoiding approaching him.
