Headlines July 13:
-Canadian mortgage owners feeling the impact of higher borrowing costs, in monthly payments, extended amortizations. Wednesday, The Bank of Canada increased its rate by 25 basis points to 5.00 per cent, the highest level in 22 years.
-Some of the country’s biggest lenders, including RBC, CIBC, BMO and TD, announced a matched increase effective today.
-Experts are now divided on another increase after summer. Markets are betting a 75 per cent chance of another small hike Sept. 6.
-Court hearing on injunction to end Wpg landfill blockade adjourned to Thursday. Families have been calling for the search of the landfill after police found the partial remains of Rebecca Contois last year.
-A 2nd man charged in connection with an incident in a string of rural MB bank robberies last year. In Jan, a 30yr old man from Modern was charged after incidents in Steinbach, Lowe Farm, Glenboro and Miami, Man. A 27yr old from the Lac du Bonnet municipality arrested Wed.
-Payments to MB child-care centres delayed for more than a week due to technical issues. While payments are out, according to the provincial government, some facilities received the incorrect amount of funding.
-MB RCMP have charged a Boissevain man with drug trafficking, A 26-year-old suspect was arrested July 7th after police seized cocaine, an undisclosed amount of Canadian currency derived from the proceeds of trafficking illicit drugs, and drug trafficking paraphernalia.

Our show deviated from french fries to Gyros pretty quick. Our Sun Seekers were sharing restaurants that serve great fries, and the list included Patches, Eastside Eatery, Komfort Kitchen, McDonalds, Antlers & Oak Diner does curly fries 😋, Chicken delight crinkle fries and gravy, Didos in Ethelbert, 34th Street Bar and Grill, Smitties Selkirk, cross tracks. Not sure if anyone in Westman makes them. Perfect dipping tater. Okay not really a fry but my favorite, The Burger Place on Portage Ave in Wpg, Five guys in Winnipeg, George’s burgers in Winnipeg Manitoba, awesome fries and their burgers are the absolute best especially the fat boy 😋The Burning Bale at Elgin, Drive in at Ninette they are so yummy and people have to try their sweet potato fries, Tastees, the Tavern, and Opah. But I mentioned I only go to Opah for the amazing Gyros. IT BECAME VERY EVIDENT I CANNOT PRONOUNCE GYROS! IT’S JUY-ROE TO ME! AND TUH-ZEE-KEE SAUCE. APARENTLY I HAVE IT ALL WRONG! WHO KNEW? (Apparently its’ a common problem?)
Now THIS IS the way to promote a HOT DOG SALE. Trina is passionate about KidSport and is having a local BBQ to raise funds. She even has costumes on the ready and we called her on the show today to talk about her local fundraiser. It’s a great way to get some attention! Way to go!
Prime energy drinks are BANNED in Canada. If anyone is selling the product is to be destroyed as it is being recalled in Canada. We knew something would happen on this side of the border after the U.S. Food and Drug Administration was asked to open a probe into the caffeinated beverages. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) confirmed the recall had been issued after a health risk assessment was conducted by Health Canada and as a result cannot be sold in Canada. More here:
No More Cash at Manitoba’s most Visited attraction. Going to a concert or hockey game at Canada Life Centre? You best have plastic with you. The arena announced Tuesday that it has gone cashless in an effort to increase the speed of service for food and beverages. According to True North, 90 per cent of customers were already using debit or credit cards exclusively anyway.
Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis visit North Dakota. They’re visiting the Peace Garden State, just miles from Manitoba, so be on the lookout. You never know when a Hollywood start could come into your store or museum in a hoodie and you can’t help be recognize them as familiar.

This is old but AMAZING. Can’t believe it took this long to go viral! This little pre school grad speech is not only amazing, but impressive that this little guys did it all off the top of this head. Must have practiced a few times! AMAZING.
